Ron & Katrina “Aunt Flora” Mincy have been married for 20 years and have been in business for most of those years. Their most recent business, Aunt Flora’s Cobbler House and Down Home Diner, was a long-time Findlay Market favorite with a large and loyal following. Now with family health restored and a new opportunity in Silverton, Aunt Flora invites guests for a special VIP preview of her cobblers and healthy soul food (comfort food) dinners at their new location near Silverton Café.
Former owner and operator of Aunt Flora’s Cobbler House and Down Home Diner at Findlay Market, Katrina “Aunt Flora” Mincy started using the wonderful recipes that she inherited from the “real” Aunt Flora. Flora Saunders -- better known as Aunt Flora -- was the sister of Katrina’s grandmother, and was famous for her portrayal of pancake favorite “Aunt Jemima.” But Aunt Flora was not just famous for her pancakes - she could cook anything, from scratch.
Katrina first started making pies to raise money to pay medical bills. While in the midst of doing so, her grandmother died and left behind some of Aunt Flora’s famous recipes. The recipes were given to Katrina, and have become the legacy upon which the popularity of her food and the Aunt Flora name has been built.
Made with only fresh fruits and vegetables, with homemade crust, the melt-in-your-mouth reputation of Aunt Flora’s pies has reached as far as a guest appearance on Martha Stewart’s television program. Her recipe for Aunt Flora’s Soul Veggie Cobbler can even be found on Martha Stewart’s website at http://www.marthastewart. com/recipe/aunt-floras soul-veggie-cobbler.
Aunt Flora is also known for her healthy soul food dinners, which substitute healthy ingredients for the originals, making her food even better than ever -- and healthy, too. Aunt Flora’s soul food dinners are made to order at her new Silverton location. Aunt Flora’s House of Soul is also available for private dining and special occasions by reservation.
