Chronicle Excel Club benefit aids homeless women and children
The ExCel Club of Allen Temple AME Church presented the 2010 ExCel Debutantes’ ”Forty Years and Still Fabulous” Benefit Fashion Show on July 24 at The Evendale Recreation Center. Proceeds benefitted Bethany House Services, which provides a full range of housing, education and assistance programs to homeless and low-income women and children.
The ExCel Club presents young women to Cincinnati society and inspires them to reach higher goals, devote part of their senior year to community service and award scholarships toward higher education. The organization has been in existence since 1970 and has presented more than 500 young ladies to society.
While there are weekly activities throughout the year, including Poise and Etiquette Workshops and A Walk A Thon on Saturday, Aug. 7, the 40th Winter Cotillion will be held Dec. 18, at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center. College bound, young African American women in their junior or senior year of high school are invited to participate in the organization’s 2010-11 program. Enrollment ends Aug. 1.
