Cincinnati State’s men’s team compiled a 22-3-0 record this year and won the OCCAC crown and the NJCAA regional and district championships en route to the finals of the national tournament this year. After winning its first two games in the national tournament, the Surge lost in the championship match Nov. 21 to Tyler (Texas) Junior College, which also won the title in 2009.
Amanda Seaburn, a standout defender for the Cincinnati State women’s soccer team, has been named a First Team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Seaburn, a 2009 graduate of Oak Hills High School, joins Ashton Bennett and Cody Clark from the Cincinnati State men’s soccer team as a recipient of the 2010 All-American awards from the NSCAA.
Seaburn was a key member of the defensive side of Cincinnati State's 13-3-0 women's soccer team in 2010. A second-year student at the college, Seaburn blossomed into a leadership role as the Surge improved markedly from a seven-win season in 2009. Seaburn anchored a defense that in 2010 allowed just seven goals all season.
On the offensive side, Seaburn chipped in with six goals and two assists. According to women’s Head Coach Wil Cagle, “the pressure she put on the other team having to deal with her deep runs with and without the ball had a big impact for us.’’
Cincinnati State finished the season ranked 10th in the NSCAA and 13th in the National Junior College Athletic Association national polls. The team established a school record for most wins in a season (13) and tied records for fewest losses (three), fewest goals allowed (seven), most shutouts (12) and highest final national rankings.
