Getaways part #1

Gatlinburg lives up to reputation
By Conrad Clowers Cincinnati Herald Contributor

Let’s face it. The economy has cut family budgets by double digit percentages over the past few years for Summer vacations. Scratch that. Actually, for any vacations. Gets a little tough for a family of 4 to fly down to Florida with all the expenses entailed. Many are exploring newer and cheaper options with equal entertainment value. Gatlinburg, Tennessee has been tops on many of travelers list as the perfect getaway.

The mountains of Tennessee have always been one of the most scenic views in all of America. Known as the Volunteer State, Gatlinburg is one of the most visited places in Tennessee. Several attractions in Gatlinburg such as  Guiness Book of World Records museum, Rafting, and Hillbilly Golf are enjoyed by travelers all over the world. Ober Gatlinburg is one of the cities biggest attractions. The attraction has anything from Alpine Slides  allowing vacationers to zoom down the mountain on a sled to a black Bear habitat allowing people to see one of the most popular animals in the Smokeys do what they do. “Just coming down here to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city destresses me,” said William Terry who is an accountant and was vacationing in Ober Gatlinburg with his family from Cleveland, Ohio.

Unlike many cities, Gatlinburg offers Chalets as well as hotels. Some travelers enjoy roughing it in the wilderness of the Chalet while others enjoy being on the Parkway with all the unique gift shops and eateries the city has to offer.  Either way Gatlinburg continues to be one of the most sought after vacation areas in the Eastern part of the United States. It’s not by accident. There’s a reason for that.
