Community Action Agency makes strides to reduce long HEAP lines

With the addition of the Home Energy Assistance Program’s new appointment hotline this year, Community Action Agency of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is able to see more people and helped reduce the number of clients who have to wait outside in the cold. We encourage our Hamilton County residents to call and make an appointment to avoid standing in a line.

The appointment hotline is also a good resource to receive general information regarding HEAP. The hotline provides information about walk-in appointments, how to schedule appointments, eligibility requirements, documents needed, or to check a scheduled appoint ment date. We encourageclients to call our hotline at 1-866-747-1039 to receive this information. In addition to the appointments, CAA’s HEAP program accepts 40 walk-ins Monday through Friday, starting at 8 a.m. Homebound persons may be eligible for a home visit. The number to call is 513-569- 1840, extension 1031, for more information. Information needed for appointments: • Proof of all income for the past 90 days for each member of the household (for example, all paystubs within the past 90 days, utility allowance information, TANF and SSI award letters, etc.) • Their most recent Duke Energy bill showing a disconnect notice (Bulk fuel users must establish an account in their name prior to applying for benefit.)• Social Security cards for all household members (including children under two years of age) • Photo ID for all persons listed on the bill (including head of household whose name must appear on the bill)

The HEAP program is federally funded and administered across the state by the Ohio Department of Development. The emergency winter funds will end on March 31, 2012.
