Homeless Cincinnatian writes successful novels


Darryl Owens - Cover of “Sworn Not to Betray’’ Darryl Owens - Cover of “Sworn Not to Betray’’ After launching his first two novels “ Sworn Not to Betray” and “A Silent Killer Within” in 2010 and 2011, Cincinnati native Darryl Owens is determined to pursue his dream of being a successful writer. Both novels are published by Publish America.

A West End native and high school dropout, Darryl has had to endure 25 years of being in and out of prison and the failure to secure part time or full time employment. Despite having to live in homeless shelters both in Minneapolis and Cincinnati, Darryl has started on his road to success.

He moved to Minneapolis in 2011,after failing to find employment, living in homeless shelters and not being able to get financial assistance to promote his first book. He eventually moved into the Catholic Charities Homeless Shelter there where he met Bob and Pattie Spinner, who were impressed with his work. They eventually helped him to get. a publisher for his first novel His first novel “ Sworn Not to Betray” was launched in 2011. It is carried by the Cincinnati Library and sold by Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, and Publish America l on the internet.

Darryl moved back to Cincinnati in 2011 and set out to promote his work and pursue his lifetime dream of being a successful writer. Darryl is still looking for additional outlets to carry his novels. He is scheduling two book signings in Minneapolis and three in Cincinnati in 2012. He is also pledged to volunteer his writing skills to help Cincinnati youth pursue a successful career in writing.

One of his long time dreams is to convince Hollywood producers to produce movies from his work and do most or all of the filming in his hometown of Cincinnati, generating revenue for the Cincinnati economy. Darryl has come a long way toward achieving his dream, but more work lies ahead and he is stepping up his efforts to succeed.

“Failure is not an option,” he said.

Darryl’s long-term goal is to convince Hollywood producers to make “made in Cincinnati movies” from his work.

Although Darryl knows that he is climbing a tall mountain, he said he is confident that he can fulfill his dream in his hometown.
